Washington D.C. offers many flawless backdrops to capture unique love stories like yours. From expressive architecture, historic landmarks, and pristine greenery, this city overflows with romantic locations to mark the beginning of this new chapter of life. No matter the vibe you’re going for, D.C. has something for everyone.

Enough talking, let’s take a look at some of my favorite Washington D.C. engagement locations!
The Capitol
This is a no brainer – The Capitol is probably the most iconic building in D.C., if not in the U.S. The majestic building is the most beautiful during sunrise, where there’s also no tourists or too much foot traffic. My favorite part of the Capitol is definitely the giant stairway, it makes for such incredible photos!
National Portrait Gallery
If you’re looking for an indoor location, the National Portrait Gallery is for you. As an art museum, of course there are tons of amazing paintings and hallways to photograph in. But if you’re also craving greenery and beautiful structures, the NPG also has an indoor garden and many architectural elements to incorporate into your session. Best part? There’s no entree or permit fee to shoot there – just follow museum guidelines (and no flash!).
Lincoln Memorial (currently under construction until summer 2026)
Another famed location in D.C., the Lincoln Memorial’s iconic columns, the reflecting pool, and even the Thomas Jefferson Memorial across the Tidal Basin are all perfect for a sophisticated engagement session.
Washington National Cathedral
Another historical location in D.C., the National Cathedral is not only one of the largest cathedrals in the U.S., it also holds huge significance as many presidential prayers, state funerals and memorials were held there. Around the cathedral, there are many locations to photograph at to create a variety of images. In additional to the magnificent main structure of the cathedral, the Bishop’s Garden is beautifully maintained and there are a few other buildings on the grounds as well.
